EDI messages often require large retail customers like Amazon or Walmart to send shipments with cartons affixed with UCC-128 Shipping labels. These labels contain important information that is printed in both bar-coded and human-readable format. Key information includes the From and To Address, SKU Number, UPC Bar code (if available), Customer Purchase order number, SSCC container code, and the number of cartons.
The information printed on the UCC barcode should match the previously transmitted EDI-856 Advance shipment notification. Implementing EDI automation for the customer simplifies the receiving process, as the receiving warehouse can simply scan the SSCC code on the label to retrieve information about the purchase order for that shipment.

The most important part of the UCC-128 label is the SSCC code, which must follow the GS-1 convention. By using an EDI system like TPSynergy, suppliers can send EDI messages and print UCC-128 barcode labels to affix on cartons.
