Amazon Vendor Central – Collect Shipments Routing Requestwp_admin
If you are selling through Amazon vendor central and the orders are collect orders, it is necessary to get the carrier assigned by Amazon before you can ship the orders
What is Collect and Prepaid Orders
If Amazon pays for the shipping, it is called COLLECT Freight orders and if you are paying for the shipment, it is called Prepaid orders.
While negotiating the contract terms with the suppliers, Amazon decides if the vendor is a prepaid or collect vendor. If it is prepaid shipping term, the price Amazon buys from the suppliers includes the charges for shipping also.
Different Process for shipping
Collect shipment process is different from Prepaid shipment process. Amazon has to assign the carrier first before it can be shipped. Routing request can be created either in the vendor central manually or using EDI transaction 753.
For Prepaid orders, no need to create routing request. Supplier can choose the shipping method suitable for the order volume and package size.
LTL and Small Parcel
While creating routing request, it is necessary to provide the below information
- Order number for which routing request is created
- Total weight of the shipment (per order)
- Total volume
- Number of Packages
- Number of Pallets in the shipments ( If the load is palletized)
If the weight and volume needs LTL shipments, Amazon will assign any LTL transporters. If it is small parcel, mostly it will be assigned to UPS
What Happens Next
Routing request should generally be created 24 hours in advance of pick up time. If the shipment is to be picked up on Wednesday, suppliers should create routing request on Tuesday before noon.
Amazon will assign carrier on the day of the pick up. Generally the carrier assignment will be done on the morning of the pick up and an email confirmation will be sent to the supplier
For small parcel shipments, supplier can arrange for the pickup using UPS website. For LTL shipments, generally the transporter will call the shipper and arrange for the pick up time.
ASN (Advance Shipment Notice) Submission
For both Collect and Prepaid shipments, supplier need to submit ASN as soon as the shipment is picked up by the transporter. Amazon is very strict about the ASN submission and there will be chargebacks if the ASN is not submitted in time.
Advantage of using an EDI system over manual process
The process of routing request creation and ASN submission can be done manually in vendor central. But using an EDI system like TPSynergy automates the entire process.
Routing requests are created automatically in vendor central using EDI connection. As the system already has the details of the item master, it can calculate the total weight and volume based on the quantity being shipped. This avoids manual calculation of weight and volume.
Complex packing like different lines goes into different packages can be done easily using excel upload. Both individual carton labels and Small parcel labels (UPS) can be generated using the EDI system.
Once the shipments are picked up by the carrier, just clicking one button in the EDI system will send the ASN details to Amazon so that the supplier does not forget to add the details in the vendor central. Also as the small parcel labels are created within the EDI system, no need to manually enter tracking numbers one by one in the vendor central.
